WP 5 : Developing a focal point to acquire, store, diffuse and archive data

Workpackage 5 : Developing a focal point to acquire, store, diffuse and archive data for end users at the local and national scale

Leaders : Management Board

Participants : Management Board and Executive Commitee

Objectives :

Based on the catalogue available at the end of 2017, the development of a focal point implies the organisation of the network in terms of interoperability of data, metrics, datasets and methods. It aims at offering resources and software tools to end users (researchers, advisers, farmers, contractors, agricultural teachers, and other stakeholders regarding ecotoxicology and toxicology) for data and metadata storage, querying and extraction, and access from modelling services. This will be done thanks to the setting of a RECOTOX Information System (IS) devoted to the management of data from new experimentations and which will ensure identification and valorisation of already collected data that are managed by different and distributed IS within the observatories. A partnership with the RI AnaEE-France has been developed to share skills and approaches. An action is also on going with the Ecotox network to stabilize the vocabulary in ecotoxicology and develop a thesaurus.

The IS implemented in RECOTOX will consist in :

  • Centralized services in the RECOTOX web portal for:
    • Accessing to the identification of the content of datasets,
    • Accessing to metadata and tools for their management,
    • Providing procedures for planning experimentation,
    • Providing rules for access to observatories and data,
    • Providing a single entry point for requests, and links to the own websites of observatories,
    • Publishing of news about RECOTOX and linking with publications using the observatories,
    • Advertising for seminars, national and international events,
  • Distributed services for :
    • Accessing, through the RECOTOX web portal, to the distributed Information Systems of observatories,
    • Proposing standardized web-services for data retrieving from distributed IS.

  • Added value :
    • Better data valorisation,
    • Harmonization of Information Systems,
    • Implementation of a data policy,
    • Standardization of meta data according to international guidelines,
    • Preparation to the age of big data and e-infrastructures,
    • Support to develop the chain observation/experimentation/modelling,
  • Deliverables :
    • Launching of Transverse Groups,
    • Technical guidelines,
    • Thesaurus, handbook,
    • Catalogue of georeferenced sites (GeoNetwork, according to directive INSPIRE),
    • Catalogue of metadata,
    • Data management Plan.
