The Moselle experimental site (ZAM) aims to understand the impacts of human activities on the quality of the aquatic environment in Lorraine and to provide the scientific knowledge needed to set up preventive and remediation solutions.

Profile :

The ZAM is an environmental research platform located in the Grand Est region. It was created in 2000 thanks to the support of the Lorraine Region, the State and the CNRS. Currently he ZAM gathers a lorraine scientific community (CNRS, INRA, ANSES and Université de Lorraine) around the protection of water ressource. Through the experimental sites network, the ZAM is part of the ILTER and LTER-Europe networks.

RECOTOX site characteristics :

The Moselle experimental site is located on the Moselle carchment. The latter is composed of a wide landscape diversity (forests, croplands, urban and industrial areas) along with specific anthropic pressures of variable intensity (acidification, pesticides, domestic pollutants…). The ZAM also offers a wild section of approximatively 15 kilometers long, with a mobile Moselle river bed not subject to human activities pressures.

Contribution to RECOTOX dynamics :

The ZAM research actions are structured around five main diruptions linked to geomorphology, land use and human activities :

• The acidification of streams and rivers in the Vosges mountains,
• Pesticides and their residues, mainly linked to agricultural activities,
• Metals and persistent organic pollutants from industrial activities,
• Emerging domestic pollutants from urban areas,
• Microbiologic disruptions.
